LDS Group Tour to Sicily



Sicily is more than an island. It's a unique place full of art, archaeology, history, folklore and breathtaking scenery and of course great food. Sicily is also the island of the sun and of the volcanoes.
This trip along the shores of Sicily begins Palermo and ends in Catania. It includes the wonderfully and well preserved Greek temples in Segesta, the medieval Erice, Agrigento's beautiful Valley of the temples, and the well preserved Greek and Roman amphitheaters in Syracuse and beautiful Taormina with Mount Etna as a backdrop.

Day 1 : Arrive Palermo, Sicily. Our guide will meet you on arrival in Palermo and drive you to the hotel located in the city's historic centre. The welcome dinner in the evening is a chance to get to know your fellow travellers.

Day 2 : Palermo. Start the day exploring Palermo, Sicily's chief port, to see its Cathedral, Pretoria Fountain and Norman Royal Palace, stopping at the 12th-century Cathedral of Monreale with its stunning cloisters and gardens, lavishly decorated with mosaics depicting Biblical events. Dinner will see the group meeting

Day 3 : Segesta | Erice | Marsala. Drive to Segesta to see its temple from the 5th century BC with unspoilt views stretching right down to the sea before continuing on to Erice, a wonderfully preserved medieval town, towering above the bay of Castellammare del Golfo. We travel along the Via del Sale ("salt way") toward Marsala, a landscape peppered with salt grinding Dutch-style windmills and there are some factual nuggets to discover here about salt production. Pyramids of glistening white salt dot the shore along Sicily's coastline. Here we tour a wine cellar to learn the fascinating history of making Marsala fortified wine and then enjoy a tasting.

Day 4 : Selinunte. Journey to captivating Selinunte, the ancient Greek city, once one of the most powerful cities in the world, to explore the vast archaeological site that displays the remains of eight temples set against the Mediterranean Sea backdrop. The afternoon is at leisure to relax.

Day 5: Agrigento | Piazza Armerina. A drive to Agrigento brings us to the ancient Valley of the Temples that includes the wondrous Temple of Concord, a superb example of sacred classical architecture. Piazza Armerina is a graceful old countryside town, from where we will explore Villa Romana del Casale and its mesmerising mosaics that beautifully depict hunting and domestic life

Day 6 : Ragusa | Modica. The Val di Noto region, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, comprises seven towns influenced by the Greeks, Arabs, Byzantines, Romans, Normans and Spaniards. First we explore Ragusa, with its magnificent Sicilian Baroque architecture, continuing to the village of Modica for a private chocolatemaking demonstration and a delicious tasting with an artisan chocolatier.

Day 7 : Syracuse | Ortygia. Set off this morning to visit the Greek Theatre in Syracuse, an important example of theatre architecture, and Dionysius' Ear, a nearby carved-stone limestone cavern with amazing acoustic qualities. It amplifies even the quietest of sounds through an opening at the top, 72 feet from the base and there are some gruesome tales to be told about the sonic cave according to mythical legend. Next we travel to the small charming neighbourhood of Syracuse known as Ortygia, a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Day 8 : Catania | Taormina. We spend the sunday morning with the local LDS Church until lunch. Later get ready for fashionista paradise in the glamorous chic resort town of Taormina, to stroll its colourful main street and then visit the Greek Amphitheatre for incredible views of Mount Etna and the ocean.

Day 9 : Mount Etna. Heading into the fertile lava flow country of Europe's largest active volcano, ascend to 6,000 feet and admire the stunning views. Take a cable car up to the lunar landscape before returning to Catania with Mount Etna in the distance. In the evening there is a farewell dinner with your fellow travellers to toast the end of the journey.

Day 10 : After breakfast we will drive you to the airport for your flight home.

Terms and conditions:
Tour payments: To reserve a seat on our tour you must agree to these Tour Conditions and provide us with a deposit of $400 per person. We accept MasterCard, Visa and American Express for all tour payments. (Note: we cannot accept credit card information via email.)
Your final tour payment is due in our office at least 60 days prior to the start of the tour, in one payment. Please mark your final payment due date on your calendar. The due date is listed on your initial confirmation letter and tour invoice. Missing the final payment deadline may result in your being removed from the tour! If you sign up for a tour less than 60 days before its departure, the entire tour price must be paid, and the deposit portion is non-refundable. (Tour deposit refunds are discussed below.)
Solo travelers and single supplements: If you are traveling solo, you need not pay the mandatory single supplement often required by other tour companies. You will most likely room with another tour member of the same sex. If you wish to guarantee a private room, we offer a limited number of optional single supplements for an additional fee.
Cancellations and refunds:
Deposits for tours are 100% refundable for 30 days from the date they are received. After 30 days your deposit becomes non-refundable, and will be forfeited should you decide to cancel your reservation. Deposits made 60-90 days before a tour departs become non-refundable on the final payment due date. Deposits made less than 60 days before a tour departs are non-refundable. Cancellations must be in writing: sent via email to info@italiaexclusiva.com.
